THE FINAL CRISIS
I/ Let us cast our gaze for a few moments on the intrepid missionaries of God and the divine occasion of their appearance.
According to Saint Peter there will come in the end times seducers, imposters, who will question the promises made by Our Lord and His coming, (II Peter 3, 3-4).
These seducers we see with our own eyes and we hear them with our own ears. Namely, rationalists, materialists, positivists. They deny any First Cause and any supernatural event, and they care not to enquire as to whence they come or wither they go, just like the as foolish described in the Book of Wisdom. Hence, in their eyes, man must make the most of the present moment as everything else is uncertain.
These false sages relegate the inspired writings of Moses to the rank of fables and they refuse to accord any historical value to Holy Scripture. All these texts, they claim, are the work of a certain Esdras, a presumptuous Jew, who wanted to exalt his own nation. With regard to the Second Coming, the general resurrection, the Last Judgement, and an eternal reward or punishment, they esteem them all to be absurd and fanciful. They are full of assurances that humanity is on the road to indefinite progress and will one day find paradise on earth.
In order to confound these impostors Almighty God will raise up Enoch, himself a representative of the period before the Flood, almost a contemporary of the origin of the world. He will also raise up Elijah, representing the Old Law, who bridges the time between Solomon and David, and Isaiah and Daniel.
These great figures will come with an indisputable authority, both to establish the authenticity of the Bible and the rapport of Christianity to the prophets and to Moses, as well as to the patriarchs and to Adam. In their persons all the centuries will rise up to render witness to the veracity of divine revelation. Never will the Divinity of the Lamb of God have shone with such splendour.
At the same time they will announce with force the approach of the final Judgement, preaching repentance: Enoch, with great majesty, will announce Our Blessed Lord to the nations; Elijah, will manifest to the Jews, who expect his return, the divinity of Christ.
This preaching will be followed by countless and striking conversions, notably amongst the Jews, in spite of all the threats and torments.
The two witnesses will preach sometimes together, sometimes separately, across the world, for a period of three and a half years. In spite of the conspiracy of silence they will face from the media (as was the case at Lourdes), they will gain world-wide attention. The Antichrist will try in vain to have them seized, but fire will destroy any who would dare, and hence they will pass unscathed in the midst of men, striking the sensual and the debauched with awful sores.
Notwithstanding, just as for Our Lord Himself, so will their mission be of limited duration. At a given moment they will loose their supernatural assistance and protection as foretold by the Apostle Saint John.
II/ In chapter eleven of the Apocalypse St John describes the apparent defeat of Enoch and Elijah:
‘When they will have completed their witness the beast who rises from the depths will wage war against them and will put them to death. Their bodies will lie exposed for three and a half days for all to see in the centre of the great city, Jerusalem, whilst the peoples of the world rejoice at the sight of their demise.’
‘But after the three and a half days Almighty God will sent a breath of life into them and they will rise up to the great consternation of all. At the sound of a great voice from heaven they will be taken up in a cloud, witnessed by their enemies, at which time a great earthquake will destroy a tenth of the city with the death of seven thousand men, whilst those who are spared will in their terror give glory to God!’
What an overwhelming conclusion and supernatural intervention to this incredible drama! Having reunited in Jerusalem they will there share in the divine weaknesses of Our Saviour, being seized, condemned, tormented and put to death, maybe even crucified.
Everything will appear to be over, with the Antichrist seemingly triumphant, but what will he do when the two witnesses are brought back from the dead? He will be enraged knowing that he is outdone and that the hour of justice approaches.
According to the Prophet Daniel it seems as though the definitive punishment of the monster will be delayed for thirty days following the two witnesses’ triumphant assumption. During this time the Antichrist will try to regain his lost domination before being killed by the breath from Our Lord’s own mouth, possibly, as described by St Hildegard, in the moment of his own pseudo-ascension.
So it will be that his immense empire will come to naught and the world will be delivered from his crushing weight. This will be followed by a massive conversion, as will be explained in the next article.
