LETTER FROM BROADSTAIRS July 2025
nova et vetera (Matthew 13,52)
The Pere Emmanuel, 1826-1903, re-christianised his little French village
of Mesnil-Saint-Loupat at a time when Freemasonry was hard at work
to implant the revolution even in the most out of the way places. He
even founded a small monastery next to his parish church so that his
parochial ministry here of some 54 years would be all the more fruitful.
The Freemasons arms of choice were fashions, public opinion and party
politics, against which he resisted courageously. A man of intelligence
and study, immersed in the works of St Thomas Aquinas, he published a
series of articles in his parish bulletin, Our Lady of Holy Hope, from
1883-1886, a study on the history of the Church. He was convinced that
each soul should be immersed in every truth, for such is the work of the
Holy Ghost in the soul.
The final section of this work concern the Drama of the End Times and
is in accordance with the writings of other notable ecclesistics of the
time, such as Mgr Gaume and Mgr de Segur. To speak of the end times
nowadays is something reserved to sects and sensational films, but as
this subject is treated numerous times in Holy Scripture, it is important
that we be instructed as to the Second Coming of Christ and the
desolation which will precede it. As the writer himself states, ‘we do not
have the intention of scaring anybody in dealing with this subject.
Rather, along with the great teachings there are also great consolations.
The errors of the present times and the acceleration of their
implementation, should oblige us to reflect seriously on this subject
before the arrival of the Antichrist on the global scene. To delay would
be to copy the attitude of the contemporaries of Noah who were
unprepared for the coming deluge. Hence to avoid the subject is to
place oneself in danger. It is dangerous also to not understand the
significance of the events which we are witnessing and those which we
will have to face in due course. There is the danger also of being
scandalised faced with the triumph of evil, of loosing our Faith in Christ
and of no longer keeping the commandments faced with the apocalyptic
crisis.
The introduction deals with the future of the Church, after the previous
considerations on her past and present. Almighty God wanted that the
destiny of the Church and of His Divine Son be described in advance in
Holy Scripture, hence this is where the documents for this subject are
to be found. The Church must above all resemble Our Lord and hence
before the end of the world she will suffer a supreme Passion which will
manifest her immense love for her Divine Spouse.
It is assuredly a sad spectacle to witness mankind, seduced and
overwhelmed by the spirit of evil, attempting to smother and destroy the
Church, its mother and divine guardian. Whilst men labour to this end
upon earth, they are led by the powers which are not of this world. It is
the Faith which allows us to understand the events of history and to see
how the impure spirit tries constantly to enter into the house from which
Our Lord has expelled him. At the end he will enter and will endeavour
to eliminate Our Lord. Then the veils will be torn asunder and the
supernatural will be made manifest in an exclusively religious drama
enveloping the entire world in which the divine character of the Church
will be most wonderfully shown.
All these prophecies are meant to strengthen the souls of the believers
in the days of great trial. ‘Watch and pray so that you be found worthy to
flee these things which will come, so as not to enter into temptation, so
as to preserve the Faith, so as not to fall asleep, but rather so as to be
able to stand in the presence of the Son of Man.’ (Matthew 26; Luke 21)
If evil will then be everywhere let loose, at the same time it will be more
than ever in the hands of God. As Our Lord was delivered into the
hands of His enemies but without allowing any bones to be broken, so
for the members of Church, the Elect, those who are truly humble, for
whose sake the days of trial will be numbered.
The time of trail will end with a great triumph for the Church, comparable
to a resurrection. In those days, amongst the preludes to the supreme
crisis, all nations will be converted, as well as the Jews, either before or
during the Church’s victory.
So it is that the words of the Psalm care applied to the Church:
‘Following the multitude of afflictions which have filled my heart, Thy
consolations O Lord have rejoiced my heart.’
