LETTER FROM BROADSTAIRS   May 2026

Nova et vetera

Watch and Pray

We have reached the end of our study on the Church and the end times. In casting an eye on the future events we have relied solely on the prophecies which form an integral part of divinely inspired Scripture. Hence the substance of our work has been drawn from the very sources upon which the Faith is based and thus it would be rash to deny that which has been said regarding the coming of the Antichrist, the apparition of Enoch and Elijah, the conversion of the Jews and the signs foretelling the Last Judgement.

Where we might have erred is in the commentaries on the various passages of the Apocalypse as well as in the unfolding of the events cited above. But if we have it is in following the qualified interpreters, more often than not the Fathers of the Church.

We think not to be mistaken in seeing in the present state of the world the preludes to the final crisis as described in the sacred books. We could not imagine anything worse than the apostasy of Christian nations, the loss of Faith in so many baptised souls, the satanic plan of the war waged against the Church, and the position of power of the masonic sects.

Having said that we cannot be overly rigid in our thinking. The time in which we live is indecisive and tormented. Humanity is anxious and hesitant. Goodness still exists, and in the face of the revolutionary and satanic propaganda there remains a movement of Catholic renaissance manifested by many generous endeavours and religious initiatives. These two currents become clearer by the day and only Almighty God knows which one will prevail.

It is certain also that the terrestrial course of the Church is far from over. Our Lord made it known that the end of time would not arrive before the Gospel had been preached to the entire world, which is not the case for deepest Africa, China or Tibet.

How will the Church carry the Gospel  to those nations who still ignore it  or who  have only partially received it? Will it be done in a time of peace or in a time or persecution? Both hypotheses could be envisaged as the Church’s life surpasses human calculations. One remembers for instance the marvellous conquests made against the infidels at the height of the protestant revolt.

In reality the most absolute confidence in the magnificent future destiny of the Church is not at all incompatible with our reflections and considerations on the gravity of the present situation.

Whilst thinking that we are indeed assisting at the preludes to the crisis which will lead to the coming of the Antichrist we should be on our guard against wanting to be precise about the exact place and time. As a traveller can see, but cannot estimate, the distance to a mountainous horizon, so it is for us who can see the unfolding of the satanic plan but without knowing the time-scale involved or the exact course the events will take. Only the Heavenly Father knows the day and the hour…

In this time of incertitude, but always under the Providence of God, we need to watch and pray. To watch and to pray because these times are incontestably perilous (2 Timothy 3,1), and because the danger of loosing the Faith in this time of scandal is very great.

Watch and pray so that the Church may continue her work of enlightening souls in this world of darkness.

Watch and pray so as not to enter into temptation.

+ Paul Morgan

[This completes the summarisation of Pere Emmanuel Andre’s work on the ‘Drama of the end times,’ written in 1885]

——–

Afterword by Mgr Jean-Joseph Gaume (1860):

See that which is happening around you and understand well the signs of the times. Seduction is everywhere: in laws, in morality, in books and speeches, in the public and the private behaviour of the masses. The number and the authority of Catholic truths is diminishing day by day. Understand well and be convinced that your position has never been so critical. But rather than withdrawing from the world you should strive to keep yourself from evil.

More than at any other time the Christian must be a soldier until his last breath. If you understand all this then the great trials which await us will be the occasions of great courage and a holy joy. Indeed, these events are the invincible proof of your Faith and the unmoveable foundation of your hopes because they are the tangible accomplishment of of Our Divine Master’s prophecies.

So stand firm  because the great anti-Christian fight announces the dawn of the day of Justice when everything will enter into order for ever. Do not be content to watch only  but rather to pray. Many did not discern the signs announcing the great Flood, and likewise many others failed to recognise the signs foretelling the destruction of Jerusalem, and so it will be  also in the end times…
