LETTER FROM BROADSTAIRS
Nova et Vetera October 2025
The Empire of the Antichrist
(Taken from the Pere Emmanuel Andre’s ‘Drama of the End Times’ 1885.)
I. One night the Prophet Daniel had a vision in which he saw four monstrous beasts, representing four empires, the last of which had ten horns with another smaller horn growing in their midst. It was explained to him that they represented ten kings, with the final one being a king who would come to dominate the whole world with an unheard of power.
“He will vomit blasphemies against God, he will crush beneath his feet the saints of the Most High; he will think he could change the set times and the laws…” (Dan. 7)
II. This king is interpreted by all as meaning the Antichrist. The beast upon which he will rise up is the Revolution, that is to say the body of impiety, obedient to an occult driving force, which rebels against God. The Revolution is satanic and bestial, animated by a hellish spirit and given over to all the instincts of corrupt nature. It forges despotic laws so as to crush human freedom, and it seeks to take over kings and governments which will have to submit themselves to it.
The Antichrist, says Daniel, appearing as a small horn, will come from obscure beginnings, not from a royal family, but rather a ‘Mahdi,’ who will gradually rise up by the force of his impostures, in league with the devil.
This new king will be a false prophet, seducing more by the power of his words than by the power of arms and political trickery. All eyes will be upon this impostor whose feats will be lauded the complacent press. His popularity will overshadow other apostate sovereigns, in this revolutionary empire, and after a gigantesque struggle the Antichrist will defeat his rivals.
At this moment all the people, made fanatical by virtue of his prodigies and victories, will acclaim him as the saviour of humanity, marking the beginning of a terrible crisis for the Church of God against whose saints war will be waged.
III. It is probable that during this first period which could last many years, the man of sin will assume an affectation of hypocritical moderation.
Being Jewish he will present himself to the Jews as the long-awaited messiah and the restorer of the Law of Moses. He will endeavour to apply to himself the mysterious prophecies of Isaiah and Ezekiel, and, according to several Church Fathers, will also rebuild the Temple of Jerusalem. The Jews in turn, dazzled by his false miracles and display, will place at his service high finance, the press and the world-wide Masonic lodges.
It is very conceivable that the Antichrist will initially curry favour with all the false religions out of respect for religious liberty, itself one of the lies and maxims of the revolutionary beast. He will say to the Buddhists that he is a Buddha, to the Muslims that Mohamed is a great prophet, or even that he himself is a new Mohamed. He might go so far, as Herod did, that he would want to adore Christ Jesus! Woe to those Christians who accept without indignation that the adorable Saviour be placed on the same level as Buddha or Mohamed in whichever pantheon of false Gods.
All these schemings will win over the world to the enemy of Our Lord, and once in control he will show himself as the most awful tyrant mankind has ever known.
IV. Saint Paul, says that the man of sin, the son of perdition, ‘will exalt himself above all that is called God or that is worshipped, even to sitting in the temple of God as being God Himself.’ (II Thess. 2,4).
Thus once the Antichrist will have enslaved the world with his lieutenants everywhere he will employ the means of highly centralised authority to proclaim the abolition of all religions, imposing by force every inhabitant of the earth to adore him alone as the only deity, and this under the threat of the most dire torments. This monster of impiety and pride, the exact opposite of He who is meek and humble of heart, will have himself adored by terrified and seduced mankind having chosen this master in preference to Our Lord.
The seat of this false worship will be the Temple of Jerusalem but Saint John the Apostle tells us that the image of the monster will be everywhere present so as to be adored by men. (Apoc. 13,24)
Even though every religion will be supressed and abolished the world’s fury will be directed against Our Lord and His Church. Holy Mass will only be celebrated in caves and hidden places whilst the profaned churches will have the image of the monster raised on the altars of the true God, fulfilling ‘the abomination of desolation, as announced by the Scriptures.
However, after three and a half years, again according to the vision of Daniel, the Hand of God will be felt and those days of supreme anguish will be abridged.
