Letter from Broadstairs September 2025
nova et vetera (Matthew 13,52)
We suffer a kind of terror considering the dire conditions of humanity at the present hour. Can one ignore the affliction which is so deep and so serious, infecting human society more than ever in the past, and worsening day by day, consuming it to its very marrow, driving it to its ruin?
This affliction (…) is in regard to God, to betrayal and to apostasy. He who ponders these things may well fear that such a perversion of spirits is the beginning of those evils announced for the end times (…) and that already the son of perdition of whom the Apostle speaks, is in our midst.
Pope St Pius X ‘E Supremi Apostolatus’ 1903
We continue below our summary of Pere Emmanuel Andre’s (1826-1903) study on the Drama of the End Times:
Even if the generous efforts of the faithful could delay the work of de-Christianisation for a while by the grace of God and their prayers, like a sort of Palm Sunday, the enemies of the Church would continue their satanic work with a renewed hatred. The state of the Church would then resemble that of Our Blessed Lord in the days preceding His Passion.
The world will be profoundly troubled as were the Jewish people gathered together for the Passover. There will be intense rumours about the Church, some speaking of Her divinity, others denying it. She will be the object of the most insidious attacks by the free-thinkers, but She will reduce them to silence by destroying their sophisms.
In brief, the world will be made to face the truth and will struck by the divine splendour of the Church but it will turn away its face saying I do not want it!
This disdain for the truth, this abuse of grace, will lead to the revealing of the Man of Sin. Humanity will have wanted this awful master and it will have him. And through him will come a seduction of iniquity, an exemplar of error which will punish men for having rejected and hated the Truth.
In speaking thus we are simply following the Apostle Saint Paul who writes of those who reject that Truth which could have saved them, preferring instead to believe in lies and consenting to iniquity. (II Thessalonians, 2, 11-12)
So it is that the Man of Sin will appear in his own time, when the body of the evil men, hardened against the workings of grace and hardened in its iniquity, will clamour for his person.
He will rise up and Satan will make manifest in his person the whole scope of his own hatred against God and men. The Antichrist will not be the devil incarnate as he does not have the power to assume a human nature, but rather a mere mortal of Jewish stock as asserted unanimously by all the Fathers of the Church, coming from the tribe of Dan which is not listed in the Apocalypse as providing any elect for Our Lord.
This belief is made even stronger when one considers that as Freemasonry is of Jewish origin, and as the Jews control its tentacles throughout the world, so the head of the anti-Christian empire will himself be Jewish, whom they will revere as their messiah. “I came in the name of My Father and you have not received Me; if another comes in his own name you will receive him,” says Our Lord in St John’s Gospel (5,43) and the Fathers understand this as referring to the Antichrist.
Whilst this individual will have known grace and the truth and have a guardian angel, he will be lost through by his own fault. From the age of reason onwards he will enter into such constant and direct relations with the spirit of darkness to such a degree that he will give himself over to evil with a pertinency and rebelliousness against God which knows no bounds. By this constant application to evil he will attain a degree of impiety never previously reached by any man, with the irremediable determination of the damned, hence his name of the ‘son of perdition.’
Being diametrically opposed to Our Blessed Lord he will be for Satan an instrument of choice, an object of predilection. As the Son of God Incarnate had the power to perform miracles so the man of sin will receive the power from Satan to perform false miracles (prodigies). Our divine Saviour only performed miracles through goodness without any ostentation, but the Antichrist will take delight in his monstrous displays of deceitful power and men will enthralled at their sight.
Hence it follows that the Antichrist will present himself to the world as the most perfect example of those false prophets who render the masses fanatical, leading them to every excess under the pretence of a religious reformation, as prefigured by others over the course of history…
