Since in Rerum Novarum, his famous Encyclical Letter to Catholic Bishops of 1891, Pope Leo XIII castigated Socialism as being radically opposed to man’s God-given nature (see these “Comments” of last week), it might be thought that he was no friend of the working classes whose interests Socialism pretended to protect. On the contrary. There is a whole second part of the Encyclical in which he lays out the true solution of the real problems of the late 19th century, for which Socialism was the false solution.

Since in the 21st century our godless world continues to be tempted by the Socialism and Communism of the Globalists in their same war on God, let us take a look, however briefly, at Leo’s true solution.

He says it must come from three sources. First and foremost, from the Catholic Church. Secondly, from the public State, which he called upon to play a special part in protecting the workers. And thirdly from private associations of employers and employees, which he said had also a precious part to play. But he began by dismissing for social problems all unreal solutions which seek to eliminate either the natural inequalities obviously inherent in all men, or the unnatural hardships in this “valley of tears”, due to sin. Catholics know that inequalities are natural to Creation, in order to reflect the infinite variety of the Creator, and that suffering, death and concupiscence only broke into that Creation by men’s original sin.

Therefore Communism’s promoting of class warfare and revolution against all authority are not natural, but unnatural, and the Church will be first in creating class harmony and respect for authority by its own means of natural justice and supernatural charity. In justice, workers must work and respect their employers, employers must respect their workers and look after their spiritual and physical welfare, in particular by paying a just wage to be determined not just by what the employer can get away with. In charity’s view of eternity, wealth is rather a hindrance than a help to salvation, so the rich must share with the poor, and the poor need not envy the rich. Thus the Faith undermines both opposed errors, Socialism and harsh capitalism, by moderating men’s excessive desire for riches.

As for the State (RN 46), its prime function is to safeguard the common good of all its members, not just the rich. In fact, since the rich can often look after themselves, whereas the poor can be in special need of the government’s protection, then the wretched condition of the working classes in 1891 meant that the State must intervene on their behalf. The law of the land must protect their morals, dignity and working conditions, with special protection for women and children, and with help to own property. Here was the Catholic Church virtually launching the modern Welfare State. Leo XIII was even widely misunderstood in his own day, but 40 years later Pius XI saluted the good done by Rerum Novarum.

And thirdly, Pope Leo called on all kinds of private associations, like the medieval guilds, to be adopted and fostered, where men can join together not so much horizontally in the same class, but vertically by all classes in the same occupation, to head off class warfare. Christian associations of this kind have been of special benefit, but instead of helping them anti-religious States have hindered them. Let the workers’ religious welfare be especially cared for, but let provision be made also against their unemployment, sickness, old age, misfortune. Let Catholics’ example convert the Socialists !

By this doctrine of Church, State and associations coming to the aid of the workers, the Pope proved that he was condemning not only Socialism but also that liberal capitalism which by putting the pursuit of money above the concern for human beings, had reduced the workers to such conditions of misery. But the Globalists are back to the same grave error. Can they learn from Pope Leo ?  One may doubt it.

                                                                                                                                Kyrie eleison.

You want to look after men ?  No need to search.

The God Who makes them also made the Church.

Did not Karl Marx once say that Communism can be summed up in one simple phrase – “the abolition of private property” ?  And did not a supreme Globalist, Klaus Schwab, recently promise all souls alive that under Globalism “they will own nothing but they will be completely happy” ?  And does that not say that Globalism will essentially be on-going Communism ?  But why this detestation of private property ?  Because these godless souls are wanting to put an end to any human society that still has any belief in, or respect for, the God of the Ten Commandments: Seventh, thou shalt not steal, Tenth, thou shalt not even desire to steal.  Two whole Commandments out of ten, to establish the principle of private property amongst men. The modern war on private property is, amongst other things, modern man’s war on God.

Defending the interests of Almighty God, the Catholic Church defends private property against all Socialists, Communists, Globalists and other enemies of human society who want to destroy it. One notable defender of private property was Pope Leo XIII (1878-1903) in his famous Encyclical, Rerum Novarum of 1891. Since the godless Globalists are threatening right now to overthrow all human society with their “Reset”, let us have a look at this Pope’s defence of the principle of private property.

Private property, he says ((RN 8) is a natural right of man, to abolish which is unjust, harming both workers and owners, both States and governments. This is because man alone is a rational animal among the rest of the animals, or brutes. Thus all animals must feed, but whereas God thinks ahead and provides for the feeding of the brute animals, God gives to men a mind to think ahead for their own future. This means that whereas the brute animals will merely use things, man will use them and also take them into his possession. But the earth alone can supply for his recurring future needs. Therefore man is of such a nature as to take the earth into his possession, in other words he has a natural right to property.

To the objection that the State can provide for all men within it, Leo XIII replies (RN 13) with another key principle, that the individual is prior to the State (because for a State to exist, already existing individuals must come together). And to the objection that God gives the earth to mankind in common, in other words He gives all the earth to all mankind (RN 14) and not just to this or that owner in proper, Leo replies that while it is true that God offers the earth to serve everyone and to be owned by anyone, never-theless any particular part of it is to be possessed by someone. Otherwise the strife will be endless, so that, as Klaus Schwab very well understands, the State will have to intervene to exercise supreme control.

Moreover (RN 15), a man is definitely more motivated to work on what is his own property, and the sweat of his brow so makes marks upon, and enters into, his property that to deprive him of ownership of it is both to deprive him of motivation to work upon it and to defraud him of the fruit of his labours. Man naturally attaches to his land. Socialism and Globalism both uproot him the better to control him.

The individual’s natural right to property is further reinforced by his natural family obligations (RN 18). As fatherhood is a natural right extending the individual into the head of a family, so the family is of a nature to extend the right of property, either for instance to feed the whole family in the present, or as a bequest to the children for their future. Nor can or should the State provide (except in families’ special distress), because children enter a society or State only through a family, and so the prior-existing family has prior rights and duties to those of the State.

The sane Pope concludes (RN 22) that Socialism will ravage society with turmoil, envy, poverty, universal wretchedness and enslavement. But see next week what Leo says the State does need to do.

                                                                                                                                                 Kyrie eleison.

Men hungry for power want Socialism to reign.

Thus Globalists want universal pain.

When Sister Lucy of Fatima was still the genuine Sister Lucy (up to 1957) and not the fake “Sister” (from 1967 onwards), she said amongst many other things that Heaven was granting in our difficult times a quite special power to the Rosary, to solve all problems. That does make sense. God is the Good Shepherd, and He does not abandon His sheep unless they want to be abandoned, as St Augustine famously said many centuries ago.  Here is an example which arrived just recently in the in-box of these “Comments” (“Not to us, O Lord, not to us, but to Your name give the glory.”)

My name is ….., and soon after I graduated from high school, I became frustrated with those in the Lutheran Church that I was supposed to be able to rely on for guidance. This lack of competent advice led to me entirely rejecting a life of faith. Then I listened to the author of the “Eleison Comments” in an interview on the Caribbean Rhythms podcast. Soon after, I watched everything I could find of him on the internet. With his teachings and commitment to the realities of the faith and to what is happening in the world, I bought a rosary.

I didn’t know how to pray a rosary and had honestly only ever seen one in movies or television. I have prayed that rosary every day since I received it. At least five Mysteries a day. The results of my prayer have been miraculous. My life and those lives that I pray for seem better off in every measurable way. And all this after only three months of dedicated prayer.  I am and will be forever grateful for having had the rosary shown to me.

For the first time in twenty years, I feel that I have a true bedrock of faith to guide me. I’m currently helping my father, who was diagnosed with stage four prostate cancer six months ago. Today, we found out that his body is almost entirely cancer-free, after one round of chemo. I feel that this is only possible due to the workings of Our Lady. I can’t prove it, but I know it to be true.  Thank you for giving me a place of truth to begin again.

There are various lessons to be drawn from this edifying testimony.

First and foremost, the power of Our Lady, working especially through the rosary.  If Heaven said that from now on grace would come through our walking on our hands, we should all be walking around the house on our hands. If Our Lady says, as in Akita in 1973, that in view of the threatening calamities we should all pray the rosary for the Pope, the bishops and priests, we may or may not understand, but that is exactly what we should be doing. I may even have been turned off the rosary, but that is still exactly what I should be doing.

Secondly, the grace of God is still at work, even through the muck-infested Internet. He has not given in His resignation. He is still good to those that look for Him (Psalm IX, 11). Even if a soul seems to itself to be drowning in sin, smothered in modern life, in despair of finding any sanity nigh or afar off, still let it never doubt that it can find God if it looks for Him. Just let him pick up a rosary, and see what it can do.

And thirdly, if anybody wants to fight for God, for family, for country, for sanity, against today’s forces of evil let loose, let him forget politics or academics or economics or any of the variety of other puppet-shows put on to delude us today, all shells with little or no substance still left inside, and let him put into Our Lady’s hands one rosary prayed after another, and he will be on the very front lines of the great war being fought today for no less than the survival of mankind. Let him try the rosary, and see !  And mark down the dates of October 27 to 30 for the next “Rosary Blast” in Walsingham.

Kyrie eleison.

All politics are over, shot and vain.

Turn not to man for an end to the worldwide pain !

In a godless society like our own in the West today, men do not want to recognise that religion governs politics, because even if “God” exists, they do not want to give Him any importance. True, He played a large part in men’s lives yesterday, but today the attitude is that “mankind has grown up, has come of age, men no longer need Him, and men have taken His place. All the glory that used to go to God needs now to go to man, and all that He need do, if He exists, is to give way graciously and leave us men alone.  In any case, we can very well do without Him.”

Alas for modern man !   At every turn modern life is proving that we cannot do without Him !  Two months ago these “Comments” presented a brief history of the USA’s first three central banks, all of which were rejected by Americans, until finally the Federal Reserve was established by a vote of Congress in 1913, since when the “Fed” has gained steadily more power, to the point that it is now the undisputed master of the economical and political life of the United States. What had happened in 1913 was that a cartel (coalition of partners to promote a common interest) of leading bankers had gotten together to persuade Congress that it was in the country’s interest to hand over to them, as experts in banking but independent of politics and politicians, the supply of money in the USA.

Now this hand-over was not undisputed at the time, and it has been disputed ever since, because of the truth of a quotation attributed to a member of the most notorious banking family of all, the Rothschilds based in Europe, who said words to the effect, “Give me control of a nation’s money supply, and I care not who makes the laws.”  Thus in 2022, America’s Fed is buying up not only the whole of the USA, it can be said to be buying up the world. This is because America’s dollar is the nearest thing to a worldwide currency, and so the Fed is using its mastery of the dollar to buy out the world before the dollar is worthless. (By just tapping on a computer, the Fed can today conjure into existence trillions of dollars.)

The wealth of the world in exchange for a few electronic impulses on a few computers ?  That is simply unreal !   No, it is not. It is happening all around us, right now.  But how is that possible ?  Deep down, because materialistic peoples all over the world worship matter, worship money, and give all their trust to the masters of money.  There was a time when they gave all their trust to He Who said that it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter the Kingdom of Heaven (Mt. XIX, 24). And Whose Word declared that “the love of money is the root of all evils” (I Tim. VI, 10). And Who told us that if only we would seek the Kingdom of God and His justice, all these things (material needs) would be ours as well (Mt. VI, 33). But who today still believes in God, His Kingdom or His justice ?

Is it not clear then that the real problems of society lie in the hearts of men, in what they believe and what they love ?  If they did not love money, would the Fed have a scrap of the power that it has ?  A famous book on the Fed, “The Creature from Jekyll Island” by G. Edward Griffin, spends over 500 pages tearing the Fed to pieces, but when it comes to proposing alternatives, the author has to admit (p. 571) that there is a problem “with all schemes involving control of money by men”. Yes, indeed !  And that problem is original sin, not solvable by the very best of politics or economics. Did not Napoleon, whose armies were in command all over Europe, once admit that his own power could not match that of the priest ?

Dear readers, forget the Fed and its delinquencies. If Abraham had been able to find no more than ten just men in Sodom, the Lord God would have spared the whole wicked city (Gen. XVIII). If you and I were to profit by our Faith to strive with His grace to become just men, how much in our wicked world might He not spare ?

Good institutions help, but if the men

Are bad, what use are institutions then ?

Oh, if only Mother Church had a few more leaders like Archbishop Viganò !  She used to have many of them, but his breadth and clarity of mind together with his courage of the Faith have become a rare combination among Catholic churchmen, ever since they allowed the mind-rot of the modern world to infect them at Vatican II (1962-1965). Summarized as usual here below is an interview which he gave for the Italian TV channel Canale Italia in April of this year. An English translation of the complete interview can be found at   . God bless LifeSite news !

Archbishop Lefebvre was one of the very few prelates who wanted to denounce the Conciliar revolution, understanding its subversive nature. Among those who saw the danger, almost no one knew how to denounce it openly. Today we understand the historical merit of Archbishop Lefebvre in having rebelled against the line dictated by the Conciliar politburo, and in having created the premises for a return of the Church to the doctrine and Holy Mass of all time. We are facing a global coup that involves both civil society and the Church. Both are infiltrated and controlled by characters who use their power and the authority that derives from it, not for the purposes of the institutions they govern, but in order to destroy them. This crisis of authority must be denounced, because the action of those who have reached the highest levels of leadership both of nations and of the Church is a series of subversive and criminal acts.

On the one hand, the corrupt part of the hierarchy – for brevity let us call it the “Deep church” since it is subservient to Satan – hates the Church as the Mystical Body of Christ and intends to kill Her. Those who serve the devil carry out a murderous operation, however crazy and doomed to failure. But just as Christ is risen, so His Mystical Body will also be resurrected after Her Passion.

On the other hand, the healthy portion of the hierarchy is mostly composed of bishops and clerics who nevertheless accept the ideological premises of the present apostasy, since they accept the Council and the new liturgy that conveys its errors to the masses. They do not want the Church to succumb, but they are deluding themselves, against all the evidence and after sixty years of failure, by thinking that the Council has merely been misinterpreted, that the new Mass is celebrated badly but that we can return to a certain dignity in the liturgy. If they do not understand that it was the Council that caused this disaster, and that to remedy it, it is necessary to return to the faith, morals and liturgy that existed before the Council, they are unwittingly part of the problem.

Today under Pope Bergoglio, their betrayal, conscious or unconscious, has been consummated with support for globalist ideology, migrationism, neo-Malthusianism, the New World Order, and the Religion of Humanity. The “Deep church” has even been complicit in the pandemic fraud and mass vaccination, despite the presence of abortive cell lines in serums and the irreversible weakening of the immune system it causes; today it hypocritically stands at the side of the System, supporting Schwab’s puppet Zelensky in the Ukraine against President Putin, who is the only head of state who opposes godless globalization and the criminal principles that inspire it.

The Lord will help us with His Grace, but He asks us to do our part. If we fight with Christ, with Christ we will celebrate victory. If we continue not to take sides or worse, if we side with Satan, with Satan we will have fallen into the abyss.

                                                                                                                                  Kyrie eleison

For men’s own sake the Good Lord must Chastise.

If not, they never will see through His eyes.

Let us suppose, with the two previous issues of these “Comments” (April 23 and 30), that “racism” today has taken on such an importance as to violate all common sense, because Marxism is a substitute religion, and the fight against “racism” is merely a re-run of Marxism. But that “mere re-run” behaves on the streets like a veritable crusade, e.g. “Black Lives Matter”. Why do warmed up Communists always behave like crusaders ? It is in fact a religious question deserving, for their sakes, of our attention. (In fact, only souls with some sense of the true God can properly understand our godless modern world.)

Man is a spiritual creature. The two ranks of beings above him, Almighty God and the angels, are purely spiritual; the three ranks of beings below him, animal, vegetable and mineral, are purely material; man alone is both spiritual by his soul and material by his body. Being spiritual by his soul, he alone among all material animals has intelligence and reason, and by his reason, free-will. Had he not his intelligence, he could not dominate all the other animals, as he was told by God to do (Genesis, I 26), and as he obviously can do, otherwise the variety of animals fiercer and stronger than man would have eaten him up long ago.

But the very basis of Marxism and Communism is atheistic materialism, i.e. the denial that there is any such thing as God, or spirit above matter, or free-will.  See the very first error of our materialistic age, as nailed in 1864 by Pius IX in his condemnation of 80 modern errors in his “Syllabus of Errors”.

Since “It is God that has made us, and not we ourselves” (Psalm 99, 3), then we ARE spiritual creatures, whether we like it or not, coming from God and meant by Him to go to God, with our spiritual and immortal souls, alone capable, by the right use of our spiritual free-will while joined to our material bodies here on earth below, of enjoying His spiritual Heaven for ever and ever above. Hence the real dignity of man is not so much in his mere possession of free-will, as in his right use of it. But the pride of man makes him refuse his spiritual destiny in Heaven where he will have to be beneath God, and that is why he pretends that he is a purely material being, not having to obey any of God’s Ten Commandments.

However, no man that ever lived designed his own human nature (Psalm 99,3), and that is why even when he pretends to be purely material, he remains spiritual, with a God-given instinct of how life in Heaven  will be, without marriage (Mk XII, 25) or race (Gal.III, 28) or any other kind of hurtful inequality, but “Christ will be all in all” (Col. III, 11), with all hurtful inequalities of life on earth left far behind the glory of God’s infinite variety of blessed human beings living in His perfect harmony, and theirs.

But here arises an insoluble problem for godless men, like we are today. We turn our backs on God, but we cannot help longing for that liberty, equality, fraternity and immortality of His that is inscribed in the spiritual nature of our souls. Hence we must cram into our brief mortal lives the satisfaction of our immortal longings which can only be fulfilled in His everlasting life. But that is like cramming a quart of liquid into a pint-pot. It simply will not go. Hence all over modern life are examples of men pursuing satisfaction by means that cannot possibly satisfy them. ““Thou hast made us for thyself, O Lord, and our heart is restless until it finds its rest in thee” (St. Augustine).

There was a time when employers used to advertise that “Jews, blacks and women need not apply for the job”.  Jews can resent that whites have lead the world. Blacks can resent that many people look down on them. Women can resent that the man is head of the family. And who is to blame ?  Mainly the whites, who were gifted by God to teach to Jews the New Testament; to blacks their dignity before God; to women their true role in the family. But by instead abandoning God, whites are judaising themselves, are seeing blacks tear up their godless conurbations, and are unmanning themselves.  The true solution to these problems and countless others is clear – the whites themselves must turn back to God.

                                                                                                                                              Kyrie eleison.

“Black lives matter” – of course, but Heaven alone

Will satisfy what makes them now so groan.

In an attempt to explain how the words “racist” and “racism” have recently become almost as vicious as the words “anti-semite” and “anti-semitism”, these “Comments”presented last week an argument to show how Marxism might be renamed “Marxianity”, because it was designed as a substitute for Christianity.

If then today’s anti-racism is simply a re-run of Marxism, that would explain why “racism” inspires an almost religious horror in the liberals who are quasi-crusading to eliminate it. Crusading ?  Yes, because liberals are fighting to replace God’s order in the universe with man’s order, God with man. The 19th century Popes taught that it was the worship of false liberty, liberalism, that paved the way for Marxism.

How then does the American author and cultural critic introduced last week, James Lindsay, show that anti-racism is simply a re-run of Marxist Communism ?  (see Lindsay).  The basis of Marxism is atheistic materialism, in other words, God does not exist and man must take the place that He had in Christianity. Religion is simply “the opium of the people”. The sin which is responsible for so many miseries in society is no longer the original sin of Adam and Eve, but private property, because by creating a division of labour, it creates inequality among men through social relations of domination, exploitation and alienation. Therefore Communism will recreate paradise, but on earth not in Heaven, by abolishing private property and restoring equality between all men. “Workers of the world, unite,” and together we will abolish the different classes of men. Hence the class warfare following on Communism.

Now in the 19th century, this reading of society had a certain justification in reality insofar as capital and labour were too divided and there was exploitation of workers by capitalists seeking only profits. But the Popes, especially Leo XIII in his Encyclical Rerum Novarum of 1891, made the capitalists realise that it was in their own interest to look after the workers, and so wiser counsels prevailed. The working class in the West was rather better looked after, with the result that the prosperous workers could no longer be relied on as the lever with which to bring about Revolution. However, the workers’ welfare had never been the real aim of Communism, but simply a means of overthrowing what remained of Christian order, to make way for the triumph of men’s order. A new lever had to be found.

The finder was the German-American philosopher, Herbert Marcuse (1898-1979), the most influential Marxist of the 20th century, who had in his bones the same instinct of anti-Christian Revolution as Karl Marx, son of a Rabbi. Marcuse felt betrayed by the working class because they were all becoming middle class. Where could he find a new inequality with a deep-seated sense of injustice which could be inflamed into an enthusiasm for Revolution, and turned into a lever to overthrow the present social order and open the way for the New World Order ?  He hit upon race, and turned in his own words to the “ghetto population”, to be led by students, spiritually underfed by the materialism of their Western “universities” and therefore hungry for a new religion, a New World Order – Communism.

Hence identity Marxism, identity politics, the left-wing mobilisation of white students, the “Black Lives Matter” to wreck the white men’s cities, the white men’s sense of guilt. Hence the scorn for all those now on the right wing who had betrayed Communism, hence political correctness and the making sacred of a censorship to shut down the very possibility of right-wing thinking.  Hence today’s “cancel culture” because democratic tolerance can no longer be granted to any resistance to left-wingery, because such resistance has no right to exist.  And so on, and so on. Here are the roots of today’s Brave New World !

And all because mankind is turning its back on the true Messiah, and turning instead to those expert fabricators of one false messianism after another. It will have to learn the hard way that Truth matters.

                                                                                                                                 Kyrie eleison.

Dear Lord, save those who were your very own people,

Forgive us super-materialistic sheeple !

“Sticks and stones will break my bones, but words will never hurt me,” is an old saying, but it is not always true. Words can have on their own a withering power to destroy an opponent. First prize in this respect must go to the word “anti-semite”, but in recent times the word “racist” is giving “anti-semite” a run for its money. Where has this obsession with “race” come from, and why has it become so wicked to be a “racist” ? James Lindsay is a 43-year old American author and cultural critic of whom one would guess that he is of a generation which was born and bred in left-wing thinking, but which is beginning to come out the other side, as did in their time Dostoevsky and Solzhenitsyn. Lindsay has a clear explanation in two stages of how “race” has come to assume the disproportionate importance being given to it today.

In a first stage Lindsay shows how Marxism should rather be called Marxianity, because it is the sheerest of substitutes for Christianity. Lindsay says that this is very clear in Marx’s Notebooks from 1844, which are nowhere near as famous as Marx’s “Das Kapital” from 1867, but which may well be more significant and interesting. In a second stage Lindsay shows how the philosophic system of Marx, as a successor of the subjectivist Kant and the evolutionary Hegel, is in constant evolution, so that the Communist Revolution not only can evolve, but, as Lenin said, must evolve with the circumstances of the age. And it was another Jewish thinker, Herbert Marcuse (1898-1979), who in mid-20th century successfully argued that as lever for the Revolution the working-class was out of date and needed to be replaced – by race !  Hence the quasi-religious importance of race, as a means of continuing to turn the world upside down.

A religion for turning the world upside down ?  Yes, that is Communism, recognised by Winston Churchill  as “Christianity with a tomahawk”, by Pius XI as the “messianism of materialism”. In 1851 or thereabouts the English poet Matthew Arnold (1822-1888) heard in the surf on Dover Beach “the melancholy long withdrawing roar Of faith around the world.” And as Christianity receded, like the tide ebbing, so it left a huge emptiness in men’s minds and lives, which had to be filled with something, or, as Chesterton said, with anything, but preferably something at least seeming to be capable of fulfilling those needs of man that Christianity fulfilled. And this is what Lindsay says Marxism did and still does. Thus Marx was presenting much more than just a political and social theory. He was outlining a theology, a complete theory of mankind and human nature. Let us enumerate the various elements of Christianity to see how Marx replaces them —

Christianity has a God with a purpose and endpoint for this world, the being of which is real and stable (ontology), and knowable (epistemology). There is a kingdom of God obtainable in Heaven, but on earth the Garden of Eden was lost by original sin, with all consequent sins. However, there is a heavenly salvation from sin, both original and personal, through Jesus Christ, our Saviour and Redeemer.

Now for Marx.  He gets rid of any real God and replaces Him with man. Religion is just “the opium of the people”. In Marxist ontology, being may be real but it is certainly not stable because it is constantly evolving (cf. Hegel), and it is not objective but only subjectively knowable (cf. Kant). Nevertheless the life of man on earth has an endpoint and purpose, which is the triumph of the socialist Revolution by which all men will live in Communist harmony, recreating on earth the kingdom of God and the Garden of Eden. The new original sin which vitiates all non-socialist societies on earth is private property, because it creates a division of labour, creating in turn social relations of domination, exploitation and alienation. So Communism abolishes private property (cf. Karl Schwab), and all class distinctions. There will be universal redemption as soon as the mechanism of the State is no longer needed to establish universal equality. Meanwhile all men must be on the side of the Revolution, and work with it and for it, to set up this paradise on earth, where man will be God.

Watch Lindsay himself on  See next week’s issue of these “Comments” for the second stage of his argument as to the roots of today’s  “racism”.

                                                                                                                                                     Kyrie eleison.

The very heart of Marx is God being spurned.

When will this lesson by poor men be learned ?

Marxism has a theodicy, an explanation for evil. Why does evil occur? The original sin is private property. Through private property mankind is removed from Eden. Private property creates a division of labour, the wages of sin. Division of labour creates social relations of domination, exploitation and alienation. Some men exploit and dominate others. They create religion to justify their domination and exploitation.

Communism is the abolition of private property. The social relations become stateless and classless. They cease to be rooted in domination and oppression. At the end of history, we re-enter Eden. This is a faith. It has an ontology, axiology and epistemology.

Herbert Marcuse, in “Eros and Civilization” (1955) stated that humanity’s objective is to get back to the Garden of Eden. We do that by taking a second bite of the fruit of the tree of knowledge. This is explicitly religious.

Marx cast out God. What he put in God’s place was man. Man is no longer dependent on anything or anyone. Man has become truly independent and no longer needs God. However, the only way this “independence” can be achieved is if all men’s views are aligned which inevitably leads to collectivism and totalitarianism. Every man must become a socialist man.

Redemption in communism arrives at the end of history, the achievement of a perfect society. At the end of the communist rainbow is the Kingdom of God on earth, the communist utopia, where all men will think the same way.

As individuals, we can’t redeem ourselves. All we can do is take up the theory of Marxism and do the work. We may not reach the end of history and utopia ourselves. Only those who will live after the revolution will have redemption. However, we have a responsibility to be on the “right side” of history. If we are upholding the attempt to bring Marxism to the world, then we are with the “saints” – but there’s no full redemption, only more activism.

The four Gospels of the New Testament have many fewer pages on the Resurrection of Our Lord than on His Passion, because the Passion was the purpose and climax of His Incarnation. “I have a baptism to be baptised with, and how I am constrained until it is accomplished” (Lk. XII, 50) – the words refer to His Passion without which there would have been no Resurrection. By His Passion He earned His victory over death, by His Resurrection He manifested that victory. By His Passion He overcame evil, and caused our salvation. By His Resurrection He showed forth the good He had earned for men, and fulfilled our salvation. Now, we fallen men will incline to avoid the suffering to get at its fruits, thus the Newchurch can replace on the Cross the suffering with the risen Christ, but the Gospels insist on the roots to ensure  the fruits. Nevertheless here is a quote from each of the four Gospels on the Resurrection of Our Lord –

Matthew, XXVIII, 18 , some of the last words of Our Lord recorded by Matthew before He ascended into Heaven :  “All authority in Heaven and on earth has been given to me,”  and not to Moses or Buddha or Mohammed or Marx or to any of the other heads of the many false religions among men. Nor is Christ here speaking as God, because as God that authority is already His. If the authority has been “given” to Him, it can only have been given to Him as man.  Such a stupendous claim can only be either nonsense, or true. But if Christ contradicted it, He would be a liar, like His enemies (cf. Jn. VIII, 55). It is this Authority which distinguishes the true Catholic Church from the Newchurch and from all other false churches or religions on earth. This unique divine Authority comes from God only through His Vicar on earth, the Pope of Rome. Necessarily God will restore the Pope to restore His authoritative Church.

Mark, XVI, 16, also words of Our Lord just before ascending into Heaven : “He who believes and is baptised will be saved but he who does not believe will be condemned.”  Here isanother stupendous claim which is nonsense if it is not true. And if it is true, then all ecumenism following Vatican II on the basis that souls can be saved outside the Catholic Church, is nonsense. Souls can be saved by Our Lord IN false religions, but never BY non-Catholic religions. Harsh words ?  The question is not whether they are harsh words, but whether they are true. I will never save my soul by wishful thinking. And it is pure wishful thinking that I can obtain Christ’s Heaven by neglecting Christ, or the one and only Church which He instituted to continue His Incarnation on earth after He in Person would ascend to Heaven.

Luke, XXIV, 25, the risen Lord is rebuking the two pilgrims of Emmaus for their slowness to believe :

“Was it not necessary that the Christ should suffer these things and enter into His glory ?”  We human beings do not want to believe that it is necessary to do any suffering at all, but St Thomas Aquinas (III 69, 3) gives three reasons why Baptism does not take away our sufferings in this life : firstly, so that Christians can share in Christ’s Passion; secondly, so that they must struggle to earn eternal life; thirdly, so that Christian life will not just turn into a way of avoiding earthly sufferings. Suffering has its uses.

John, XX, 29, where the risen Lord has just cured the doubting Apostle Thomas of his unbelief by letting him actually touch the wounds of the crucifixion : “You (Thomas) have believed because you have seen me. Blessed are those who have not seen and yet believe.”   Often, two thousand years after Christ lived on earth, we are tempted to think, if only we could see Him in the flesh and live with Him daily, like His Apostles did, how much easier it would be to believe in Him. But then our faith would not have had the same value. Believing in Him without that daily evidence is that much more meritorious for Heaven, as Our Lord reminds St Thomas. Believing in God is not to believe in nonsense, far from it, but to believe in Him only with the help of “scientific evidence” is to deprive our belief of that trust in God which is a     great part of the merit and value of faith. And if we suffer and still believe, belief has even more merit.

                                                                                                                                          Kyrie eleison.

Faith is a shield, stopping a host of lies.

With faith in the Resurrection, our soul flies.

Many Catholics draw a comparison between the Passion of Our Lord Jesus Christ, leading up to His crucifixion and death, and today’s pre-apocalyptic distress of His Mystical Body, the Church, leading towards the eventual Apocalypse and end of the world. Now certainly the proverb is true which says that “The wheels of God grind slowly, but they grind exceeding small”, meaning that God’s justice is slow (but most precise) in its application, so that the end of the world is not for tomorrow nor even the day after. The world still has several tens of years to run. Nevertheless, today’s threats, for instance, of world famine and world war, cast already an urgent light upon the Gospel narrative of the sufferings of Our Lord, which Passiontide must be the best time of year to consider.  Here are quotes from St Mark, XIV, 26-38 –

26  And when they had sung a hymn, they went out to the Mount of Olives. And Jesus said to his Apostles, “You will all fall away, for it is written (Zech. XIII, 7) :I will strike the shepherd and the sheep will be scattered.’ ”  Could any quotation throw more light on the present condition of the Catholic Church ?  Could the world be in such chaos as it is, if Catholics had not lost their heads ?  Could Catholics so have lost their heads if their shepherd and Pope had not been struck with his Pachamama and incomprehension, not to say hatred, of Catholic Tradition ?  Jesus can allow His Popes, as He allowed Himself, to be struck.

29  Peter said to him, “Even though they all fall away, I will not.”  Peter is a good man, utterly devoted to Our Lord, as brave as they come, with full confidence in – himself, and there is his problem.  How many Catholics since Vatican II have had full confidence in their own fidelity to Our Lord – and yet have lost their Catholic mind, as the Church crisis has gone on and on ?  The very successors of Archbishop Lefebvre at the head of the SSPX are confident that they have not lost their way – and yet ?  Nor has the “Resistance”, so-called, any guarantee that it cannot fail, only Our Lord’s own Church has that promise. Colleagues, let us have a bit of humility.

35  And going a little further, Jesus fell to the ground and prayed that, if it were possible, the hour might pass from him. And he said, Abba, Father, all things are possible to you, remove this chalice from me, yet not what I will, but what you will.   Many Catholics in today’s world are already under such pressure that they are holding on to their faith only by their finger-tips, and as the pressure comes on heavier and heavier, so their number looks like only growing. Let them take consolation from the example of the Divine Master. They are fully entitled to ask Almighty God to relieve the pressure, as of course He can always do, but only on condition that they accept His divine will for them. For instance, God may have made the faith and perseverance of a number of other souls depend on their own example of perseverance under pressure. He leaves me the free-will to give up following Him, if I find that the chaos in the world, today or tomorrow,  is just too much for me, but where would you and I be if Jesus had declined the tremendous pressure in His Passion ?  With no possibility of entering Heaven.  Only His sacrificial death unbarred the gates of Heaven, barred by original sin. I need to carry whatever Cross God sends me.

37  And Jesus came and he found Peter, James and John sleeping, and he said to Peter, “Simon, are you asleep ?  Could you not watch one hour ?  Watch and pray that you enter not into temptation, the spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak.”     As some commentator wisely pointed out, Our Lord said neither just “Pray”, nor even “Pray and watch”, but “Watch and pray”. But how can watching come even before praying ?  Because if I do not watch, in other words stay awake, I will fall asleep and pray no more, just as did the three Apostles. How many souls today, “comfortably numb”, are fast asleep !  We must stay awake and watch world events, through which God speaks, because they are all under His control. And many more events He will soon design to wake up the largest possible number of souls…

                                                                                                                                 Kyrie eleison.

“The just man lives by faith.”  By faith he sees

That God does all for men’s eternal ease.
