Apostolat in Broadstairs – Regina Martyrum House,
In January 2014, Bishop Richard Williamson bought this house in Broadstairs, Kent, U.K. for several reasons:
– first of all, he had been rendered homeless since his expulsion from the SSPX in 2012 and needed a restful home, by the sea, to return to from his many foreign visits;
– secondly, he wanted a house which would have the space necessary to welcome priests and religious who desired to meet with him and even stay for weeks at a time in the troubled context of the SSPX from 2012 onwards;
– lastly, the house would be the centre of a developing apostolate extending across the whole country, concentrating on London, and with the assistance of other priests, the work extended through correspondence, conferences, retreats, first Saturdays and the offering of Holy Mass/Sacraments for the faithful.
The house was initially unfurnished and required considerable preparation. Through the generosity of benefactors, a chapel was established, along with the necessary facilities for prayer, work, meetings, and the reception of clergy and visitors. It was within this house that the Bishop’s Eleison Comments were chiefly written and prepared.
Today the apostolate work has continued from Haus Regina Martyrum. Bishop Morgan now carries forward the pastoral and sacramental ministry, maintaining the house as a centre of traditional Catholic life and service to the faithful in England and beyond.
